Each individual is unique, with a special style of getting things accomplished. In the world of planners, many of us (guilty!!!) run with the trend of the month, the week, the day.
Don't do it.
It's okay to study tips and planning styles. Watch you tube and read and learn about how to plan.
But when it comes down to putting pen to paper, think selfishly.
If watching Downton Abbey is important, write that down. Write it in your priority area. And write it with exclamation!
I make a point to not worry about what people see in my planner (and I do that, notably, knowing that you will see most of it). I only worry about what I will see. (And confidentiality of other people's information, hence all the carefully positioned ink pens.) I scratch out. One day, I schedule chores. The next, they don't land on my paper. I doodle. I don't doodle. I divide things into categories that don't make sense to anyone else. I plan for me.
Understand, I don't plan to do only selfish things. In fact, most of my plans are about caring for others. But the way I plan - my method - is selfish. I think planners would be happier, as a group, if they did the same. Plan selfishly. Plan for you. Plan in your style.
But, whatever you do, make a plan.
You will be rewarded.
Etcetera.
Great blog today, Reinforces what I just figured out for myself - a planner is worthless if it is not a reflection of me and my needs. I love how you show that all the time. Thanks for the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI completely agree. All my colleagues use gadgets and I use a planner which I designed and tweaked as the year has gone by. I even designed some of my own pages to print off. Well my husband followed my drawing and drew it out on autocad, that still counts I think.
