When it comes down to a choice between decorating my planner and making it practical, I ALWAYS choose practical. After all, my planner keeps me sane. I do not want to mess with that mojo!
But I still enjoy pretty. So I am careful when choosing inserts that fit my Franklin Covey compact. I want them to look nice and work well.
My secret?
I look for bound planners as a basis for creating my inserts!
REMINDER: Franklin Covey compacts measure 4.25 x 6.75 inches, slightly wider than a Filofax Personal or Daytimers, but with the same hole configurations.
In the past, I've used small Plan Ahead planners for my monthly and weekly inserts. They fit well, are all ready hole punched, and have a great vertical weekly layout. Since they are undated, they can start whenever.
But with the academic year planners out, I wanted something else for my weekly spreads. (I'm keeping the Plan Ahead inserts for monthly spreads. And I am definitely keeping my Quo Vadis pages for daily dockets. Also, if you need free daily printables, my friend Becky at Planner Fun has you covered.)
I constantly notice all the beautiful bound planners that fit in a Franklin Covey classic, but this week at Barnes and Noble, I found these beautiful monthly and weekly "Calendar for Today" Paris Planner by Orange Circle Studios.
If you look around, you can probably find other pretty planners in that size. The Paris Planner ones really appealed to me because they are pretty and extremely practical. The paper is thick, creamy, and scratchy when writing, just like I like it!
Since they, like Quo Vadis, are not spiral bound, they tear apart, trim, and hole punch really easily.
Compare them to the boring Plan Ahead weekly pages.
They fit pretty well in a Franklin Covey compact. They could be cut down more to fit a Filofax personal, though it would be a close fit.
Slightly shorter than the Plan Ahead pages, they leave a little extra space at the top. I like that, though, because it means I can easily turn to my monthly pages using the blue overhang at the top of the spread. If you hate it, the Orange Circle Studio Paris Planner does come with monthly, untabbed pages. I will use those soon, so there won't be this extra space on top, but I haven't made tabs for them yet.
Because I desire maximum weekly space, I barely trimmed them at all, leaving my weekly pages as the widest pages in the planner. I like that, as weeklies are the heart of my planner.
Etcetera.
I like to have a combo of practical and pretty, too, but practical has to be first. :) I love the Paris planner you got. I have a thing for pictures of Paris and things with a slightly French influence.
ReplyDeleteGoing practical has always worked for me. I really like your pics! You seem to have a thing for Paris. May l ask you why?

ReplyDeleteI'm from south Louisiana, where my ancestors are mostly Cajun French and we study French here. (I am not fluent or anything!)
ReplyDeleteParis has always been my dream city to visit. I haven't yet, though.
