They expect you to get up every morning, feed yourself (and sometimes other people!), and skip nap time.
No toys allowed before 9 p.m.
Your socks have to match. HAVE TO.
And don't even get me starting on filling out forms. Forms, people!
(Maybe it's not fair to hate on "they," but it's my blog and I will hate if I want to.)
Adulting should come with instructions.
Come to think about it (how Southern is THAT phrase?), my adult life sort of does come with instructions.
It's my planner. I haven't really named her. I think of her as Flourish, picturing the end of a cool handwritten note. (That's my actual handwriting. It's the only way that I adult well.)
(Never Flo. Never ever ever. Flo is a older waitress with an attitude and an apron or an unwelcome visitor. Never Flo.)
As instructions come in, I write them down.
"Buy some milk."
"Order a book."
"Show up at 3 p.m. with a properly wrapped gift in hand."
"Call the school tomorrow."
Then, I try to follow them.
It's not a perfect system, but I pretty much am able to stumble through what they expect me to accomplish.
Unless I see something shiny. Or smell something yummy. Then I'm all "MINE! MINE! MINE!"
But nobody's perfect!
Feel free to steal and share my meme! Just please keep the source (www.GiftieEtcetera.com) with it.
Etcetera.
I can relate to this!
ReplyDeleteRemind hub to take out trash. Text client to remind them to send me their docs. Remind myself to remind my boss to send a reminder to contractor to remind them to remind their staff to send me their insurance coverage.
ReplyDeleteSomeone remind me who I am??? - lol!
MY family has learned how important me and my planner are. Since I hurt my ankle, i have been useless when it comes to cooking, cleaning, getting people to appointments. My husband is completely frazzled trying to "adult" all by himself. I will wave my planner at one of my teens or my husband and say "okay, now you need to this". I think my teens are ready to disown me, but it is keeping hubby sane.
ReplyDeleteI've named my planner Brain, because that's pretty much what it's becoming--my brain on paper. :)

ReplyDeleteI'm currently using a Hello Kitty pencil day to day, to connect with the 12 year old girl I was. Sigh
Now I need to think of a name for my planner :)
ReplyDeleteI really like your image in this post. Adulting is hard. And you know everyone else feels this way when you sigh at work and go I'm done being an adult today and everyone else agrees with you! I'm tired of making decsions. I just want my coloring books and crayons!
ReplyDeleteMy main question here is... who said socks HAVE to match?? that's a load of rubbish to be honest!
ReplyDeleteAdulting is hard. :) I think I need a name for my planner! It does keep me sane, and I don't know how people manage to do life without one.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous handwriting! Hysterical typing. Sharing! I feel the exact same. Thanks for joining us at #100HappyDays
ReplyDeleteFirst off i didn't get the memo that socks have to match!! LOL!! With 3 kids to get ready in the morning i am lucky to remember socks for myself..let alone matching them!! I do live by my planner and never thought about naming her!!
ReplyDeleteMy dear Young Thing, Adulting DID come with instructions. That was the point of all your parents blah-blah blahing during your formative years.
ReplyDeleteI love your voice. Following you. Found you at Paula's No Rules link Party. Happy Thanksgiving. Cheers.
