NOTE: Not all users get all the features at the same time, so if you are still waiting, sit tight. They are coming!
1. On This Day
Facebook's coolest new feature (pictured above) let's you see what happened on this day in past years.
HOW TO: Just look to the left of your Facebook feed and find "On This Day" listed somewhere in that left column.
In the picture, mine is under Favorites, but I probably moved it there recently.
Note in the picture that you can ask Facebook NOT to show you something.
If you lost your job or your dog died, and you want to avoid reliving that every year, set your "Preferences" to hide those items from you in future years.
2. Saved
In the same left column, find "Saved."
HOW TO: Just look to the left of your Facebook feed and find "Saved" listed somewhere in that left column.
In the picture below, I show how to find it and an example of things you can save.
Save recipes, videos, bright ideas...anything!
For example, you could share the link to Giftie Etcetera's Holiday Gift Guides on Facebook and save the link so you could go shopping later!
HOW TO: To actually save something in your news feed, find the tiny arrow in the upper right hand corner of the article that you want to save, click on it, and choose "save link."
3. Life Event
Are you pregnant? Get a new job? Pierced your ears? Sneezed? Make dinner for the first time in a month? Used the bathroom without a kid interrupting you?
Any major life event - and most insignificant ones - can be noted on Facebook.
Facebook suggests that you should note if you become an organ donor.
In honor of my cousin's beautiful little girl, Claire, who was born with a damaged heart and received a donor heart, I also ask that you become an organ donor.
However, I might skip putting that on Facebook.
My husband needs to know, of course, as do my parents, but what if I put "organ donor" and Facebook decides that I already donated? I wonder how Facebook would handle that.
I'm going to go ahead and hang on to these organs until fate takes them away, okay?
In the meantime, I will become an organ donor someday, if I am eligible. Just not today!
Etcetera.

So cool...I didn't know about any of those! I especially like the one where you can see what happened "on this day". I'm going to FB to see if I have these features now :-)
ReplyDeleteI didn't know I could save links on Facebook. Thank you for the tip.
ReplyDeleteI am very interested in the "Saved" portion....Many thanks for posting & linking at Share the Wealth Sunday!
ReplyDeleteI've seen the saved portion and the life event but don't remember the On this Day.
ReplyDeleteI have seen some people with the slide show collage on their posts. I don't see how they put that on, do you know?
This is awesome! I've been trying to figure out how to stop the On This Day stuff for weeks. It's been driving me nuts because I don't want to see posts from when my boyfriend passed away. So I just now set up the date filtering. Thank you, thank you, thank you for sharing this on the Small Victories Sunday Linkup.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the Save option!!!
ReplyDeleteYvonne, it's just something Facebook was offering one day recently. It's not a normal offer.
ReplyDeleteHeather, you brought tears to my eyes. I am so glad that I could help.
I've seen these things before and peoples posts using the 'On this day' feature. But Facebook is always biased to releasing these features to USA first and Europe has to always play 2nd or 3rd fiddle and we wait a crazy amount of time for these to appear.
ReplyDeleteAnother one is the ability to verify your own personal page or profile. Available in the US... but not in Europe. But the Facebook admins will never tell you why you can't be verified they come out with some very wooly wording. You haven't reached the Facebook Standard of Notability. OK so where can I read about this standard you speak of? No reply. I've almost given up on Facebook from the point of getting sensible answers from the admin team.
Great tips! Thank you for sharing. You are one of the fan favorites at the Sunday Showcase from the Make it Pretty Monday party at The Dedicated House. Here is the link so you can check out your feature. http://www.thededicatedhouse.com/2016/01/the-sunday-showcase-from-make-it-pretty.html Hope to see you again tomorrow night at the Make it Pretty party. Have a lovely week. Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse
ReplyDeleteSteve, on the other hand, my friend from New Zealand gets everything first! I wonder if it has to do with EU laws? (I studied EU laws in law school, specifically, because in addition to my JD, I have a Bachelor of Civil Laws, so this otherwise boring stuff fascinates me.)
ReplyDeleteKathyrn, everything at Make It Pretty Monday is always so, well, pretty! :) I'm honored.
